Singapore Preschool – PRS Highlights for July & August 2022

Hello July!

Wow! How time flies! We are done with the first half of 2022 and are now looking forward to the second half of the year. This half of the year is always more exciting, with so many colourful festivals and activities leading up to our year end concert and Christmas celebration! As we move along, we have several themes and activities planned and we are sure that the kids will learn many new things over the upcoming two terms! Let’s all look forward to a wonderful learning experience!

Arts Fest 2022

Our PRS kids nailed the Arts Fest again! They put up an awesome performance for everyone and we must admit that we were flabbergasted by their confidence on stage! The kids were so happy to have been part of The Lion King production and they enjoyed every moment. We are so proud of our PRS kids because they never fail to give their very best in all their performances. Great job, kids! We would also like to thank everyone for taking time off to join us and for sending us all the lovely messages in the zoom chat.

Our new theme for term 3 - All About Singaore

That’s right! Our nation’s 57th birthday is right around the corner and what better opportunity for our kids to learn everything about Singapore. Be it the different ethnicities, languages, cuisine and places of interest, our kids will have a good time learning and exploring about them! Our kids will begin preparing for yet another favourite day in PRS, our PRS NDP Celebration! They will be marching, singing and dancing to numerous well-loved national songs. So, do remember to take time off and join us for this memorable event on Zoom at 10.30am, 5th August 2022!

Mid-Year Parent-Teacher Sharing Session

Please note that this year’s mid-year Parent-Teacher sharing session is scheduled to take place this month. This is an opportune time for parents and teachers to share about your child’s strengths, progress, achievements and areas of improvement. The sharing of such information will definitely benefit your child.

We encourage every parent to meet your child’s teachers during these sessions, either through Zoom or face-to-face appointments with your child’s teachers. Each slot is 15 minutes. Do keep to these timings during the meet. Should you require more time, you may make another appointment with our teachers on any day between 1.30pm to 2.30pm or at 5.30pm.

Please note that our year end concert will take place on Friday, 9th December 2022. We will have an online concert for everyone as well as a face-to-face graduation ceremony only for the parents of K2s in the evening at 6pm. As many of our children enjoy participating in our concerts, do plan your year end holidays with this date in mind. They can take short holidays before the concert but should be present in school daily 2 weeks before the concert. Thank you.

Teachers' Day

Teachers’ Day celebration will be held on Thursday, 1st September 2022 at PRS. There will be no formal lessons on that day as it will be a day of classroom fun and games. WE WILL ALSO BE CLOSED ON Teachers’ Day itself on Friday, 2nd September 2022. We will open as usual on Monday, 5th September 2022. Thank you!

We understand that parents would like to show their appreciation with gifts to our teachers. We would like to encourage parents to refrain from giving individual teachers monetary or expensive gifts. Our company policy states that gifts below the monetary value of $10 can be kept by individual teachers. Any gifts above the monetary value of $10 must be declared to the management. The management will place all such gifts into the PRS Teachers’ Day Draw. If parents would like to buy individual gifts for our teachers, do try to keep the gifts at a nominal value.

Alternatively, you may come together to give the teachers a lunch treat or sponsor prizes for our Teachers’ Day lucky draw. We have a total of 13 staff and are looking for parents to sponsor gifts/vouchers for our Annual Teachers’ Day lucky draw. Please complete the survey which will be out this week in the Diibear app and indicate if you would like to contribute to the lunch treat or sponsor a gift for the Teacher’s Day Lucky Draw. Do send your lucky draw gift to school by 29th August 2022.

PRS September Holiday Programme

PRS will be organising a 3-day holiday workshop in Mandarin called ‘Shi Shang Xiao Da Ren’ or ‘Fashionista’ during the September holidays. We will be learning more about the different kinds of outfits that people wear on different occasions.

We would like you to be part of this little project by talking to your child about the different outfits we wear. Please send in 5-7 cut-outs of outfits (Sports, Denim, Formal, Beachwear) from magazines/books/drawings for their own fashion portfolio which they will be bringing home at the end of the workshop. Please send the cut-outs in a resealable bag labelled with your child’s name by 31st August 2022.

This workshop will then climax with our very own Runway Walk by our PRS kids and teachers on Wednesday, 7th September 2022. It is time for our little ones to flaunt their outfits and gain confidence as they walk down the runway.

The following are the categories for the different classes for the Runway Walk on 7th Spetember:

N1 – Sports Attire (soccer jersey, basketball jersey, cycling outfit, track pants, track shoes, sports cap, sports head band, sports wrist band…etc)

N2 – Beach Wear (sundresses, sun hat, sun glasses, flower print shirts, beach shorts, beach slippers)

K1 – Denim Wear (denim vest, denim shirt, denim pants, denim skirt, denim jumpsuit, denim hat)

K2 – Children’s Formal Wear (party dresses, accessories, necklace, bracelets, ear-rings, formal shirts, formal pants, suspenders, bow tie, tie…etc)

Staff Continual Professional Development (CPD)

ECDA encourages all centres to set aside 4 days in a year for teachers to engage in group training. Our 3rd CPD Day for this year will be on 8th September 2022. There will be no formal lessons conducted on this day as our lead teachers will be in training and children need not attend school on this day. Our centre will however remain open for children who require custodial care on that day.

PRS Staff Reflection Day

Please note that PRS will be closed at 1pm on Friday, 9th September for our staff Retreat & Reflection Day.

We will however be closed at 1pm on Friday, 18th March 2022 for our termly Staff Reflection Day. Please pick your child up by 1pm on that day. Thank you!

Early Bird Enrolment for 2023

We will celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival which is more commonly known in Singapore as the Mooncake Festival on Monday, 12th September 2022. Our children will watch a drama and a demonstration of mooncake-making. They will also be making their own lanterns in class. Please dress your child in traditional Chinese attire for that day or in something red/pink. (*Conditions apply: Only applicable for siblings who enrol for the full day programme and are currently not registered with PRS as a student.)
